Rep. Johnson on President Bush's Veto of S-CHIP

Unfortunately, President Bush has once again chosen to put special interests over the public's best interests with his veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP).

While thousands of children are at risk and will not receive the medical insurance they need and deserve under the Administration's plan, those in the tobacco industry, I'm sure, are celebrating their victory because they won't have to help pay for the S-CHIP health services.

Ironically, the same President who says this children's health insurance plan costs too much, doesn't blink an eye when it comes to spending $125 billion a year in Iraq.

Congress must override this veto and reauthorize the Children's Health and Medicare Protection Act (H.R. 3162). We can afford it and our children need and deserve it.
