CORNYN REACHES ANOTHER SENATE BENCHMARK

Earns 'Golden Gavel' Award for 100 hours of presiding over Senate floor

WASHINGTON- U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, who just last week was tapped by Senate leadership to serve as a Deputy Whip, achieved yet another Senate benchmark this week. Majority Leader Dr. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., awarded Cornyn the "Golden Gavel" award. Senators presiding over the Senate for 100 hours earn the award, and Cornyn topped the 100-hour mark last week during debate over a funding bill.

"As a new member of Congress I value the time presiding over the Senate as an opportunity to learn more about Senate procedure, and the many bills that come before us," Cornyn said. "Serving in the chair provides invaluable lessons about Senate operations and parliamentary procedure. The time will prove useful as I work to advance important Texas issues through this chamber."
