Statement regarding the situation in Burma

(Washington, DC) -- "As an advocate of personal freedoms and human rights around the world, I applaud the determination of the people of Burma to seek democratic change in their country. For more than a month, thousands have marched in the streets, peacefully demanding an end to one of the harshest military dictatorships in the world. As world leaders gather at the United Nations this week, I call on the government of Burma to embrace the ideals of democracy and human rights and immediately cease the military suppression of the people of Burma."
