Congresswoman Moore Works to Bring Grant to Women's Halfway House for HIV Education

Congresswoman Gwen Moore today announced that Horizons, Inc, a Milwaukee-based treatment center for women offenders, will receive $500,000 over the next five years in federal funding. Moore pushed for the funds through a letter written to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration - a department of Health and Human Services - in February (See Attached).

"Horizons plays a critical role in the rehabilitation of women offenders re-entering the community and I am thrilled they will be receiving key funds to continue this significantly beneficial programming," Congresswoman Gwen Moore said. "With these funds, Horizons will be able to provide key HIV education, prevention and treatment services for women, their children and at-risk partners."

Milwaukee not only has the highest incidence of HIV in the state, but also has the largest number of women offenders re-entering the community in Wisconsin.

"I support this project because the prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS is of utmost importance to all of us," Congresswoman Moore said. "This money will help Horizons provide a much needed service to our community."
