Rep. Courtney: Bush Threat to Veto Children's Health Care 'Unconscionable'

Congressman Slams President for Threat to Veto ‘CHAMP Act', Reauthorization of SCHIP

Washington, Sep 20 - Congressman Joe Courtney today slammed President Bush's preemptive threat to veto the children's health care bill, which reauthorizes the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), more commonly known as HUSKY in Connecticut. The current SCHIP program expires on September 30, 2007.

"The President's threat to veto a comprehensive reauthorization of the children's health insurance program that he has not seen is unconscionable and a threat to the future health of thousands of children in Connecticut."

"The White House has turned its back on working families who need assistance providing medical coverage for their children."

"The President has offered no reasonable justification for refusing to protect the health and welfare of kids across eastern Connecticut and throughout the nation. This is another example of an Administration's priorities and values completely out of touch with those of all Americans."

The House is expected to vote on the House-Senate conference report on Tuesday, September 25.
