Moran Supports Passage of Legislation to Keep Air Travelers Safe

U.S. House Passes Funding for Federal Aviation Administration

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jerry Moran today announced House passage of legislation to fund the nation's air traffic control system. The volume of air traffic in the United States is expected to double by 2020. This legislation, H.R. 2881, will ensure the air traffic control system has qualified personnel and the most up-to-date equipment to handle the increasing number of flights.

"This legislation makes a needed investment in our nation's airways and will keep ours the safest and most used in the world," Moran said.

The legislation funds the Federal Aviation Administration through 2011 and provides funds to modernize the air traffic control system. Moran worked to successfully defeat a proposal to increase general aviation user fees.

"Many of the general aviation aircraft and parts are made in Wichita and this user fee proposal would have greatly harmed the local and state economy, as well as individual pilots across the state," Moran said.

Moran is a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where he serves on the Aviation Subcommittee.
