WALZ MEETS WITH PRESIDENT BUSH TO DISCUSS FLOOD RELIEF

Washington, Aug 21 - Today, Congressman Tim Walz met with President Bush, Governor Tim Pawlenty, and other federal, state, and local officials to discuss the federal response to the flooding in southeastern Minnesota. Walz released the following statement:

"I conveyed the urgency of the situation based on what I heard from my constituents and what I saw over the past three days in Rushford, Houston, Winona, and other communities. The scope of this catastrophe is well beyond what these communities and even our state can bear alone, so I encouraged Governor Pawlenty and President Bush to declare the region a federal disaster area, which will unlock a host of federal assistance.

"As soon as the federal resources become available, I will do everything in my power to assure that every affected family, business, farm, and community receives all the help the federal can bring to bear."

Anyone who has a question about applying for federal aid should contact Congressman Walz's Mankato office at 507-388-2149.
