Smith Disappointed by "Agriculture" Spending Bill

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 3161, the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

"This bill had little to do with Agriculture and Rural Development and more to do with pouring money into urban districts for welfare programs and permitting the potentially harmful importation of counterfeit prescription drugs.

"This bill spends $1.04 billion more than current levels of spending and is $982 million more than requested by the President. The bill, as passed, won't help Nebraska, instead putting much of the discretionary funds into large, urban areas. I hope, as this bill works it's way through the appropriations process, fiscal responsibility becomes a priority," Smith said.
