Praises service of Gonzales, Calls for good-faith, timely confirmation
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement on the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales:
"The American people, the Administration, the Congress, and the Department of Justice now have the opportunity to move forward and benefit from fresh leadership from a new Attorney General.
An independent Attorney General is what the American people want. We need a person who will remain undistracted as they enforce the laws of our nation, secure our borders, and protect Americans by vigorous prosecution of radical terrorists. The next Attorney General should operate outside any of political pressure coming from either side of the aisle, or either end of Pennsylvania Avenue. It is my hope Congressional leaders will work in a good-faith manner to confirm a new Attorney General in a timely fashion.
Attorney General Gonzales deserves our respect for his many years of public service, and for becoming the highest-ranking Hispanic-American in the history of our government. His work during a time of great consequence in our history has made America a more secure nation."
