Congress Must Address Rising Cost of College Education

WASHINGTON, DC— Today Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) made the following statement in support of the College Cost Reduction Act:

"I am pleased that this bill is providing funding for minority serving institutions to make necessary improvements in such significant fields as math, science and technology. This will positively impact universities in my hometown including Florida International University, Miami Dade College and the University of Miami, among others in the Miami area. I am also glad to see that after such anticipation, we finally have addressed the issue of Pell Grants by increasing its funding.

"However, I am disappointed that this bill fails to hold schools accountable for spending taxpayer dollars and does nothing to address the rising cost of a college education. Every child in this country should have a fair chance at getting a college education and it is critical that we address the serious problem that students face in financing their education," said Diaz-Balart.
