Rep. Hank Johnson Rallies for Minimum Wage Increase

Congressman Hank Johnson joined Democratic Leaders on Capitol Hill today for a rally to mark the first federal, minimum wage increase in a decade. The Georgia minimum wage will immediately rise from $5.15 to $5.85 per hour, and ultimately to $7.25 per hour.

"This increase in the minimum wage was promised by Democrats last year and I am proud that we have delivered -- with the support of our colleagues across the aisle," said Rep. Johnson. "This is a great victory for millions of hard-working Americans who will see immediate benefits from this pay raise. I will, however, advocate continued monitoring to ensure that these increases are in line with future costs of living."

According to the Congressman, the increase represents an estimated $4,400 annually for the average worker.
