HOUSE BILL HAS FUNDS FOR DESOTO WASTEWATER WORK

DeSoto County will get an additional $2 million to continue work on its wastewater treatment facilities, thanks to funding in the 2008 Energy and Water appropriations bill, U. S. Rep. Roger Wicker said.

The Congressman, who serves on the Appropriations Committee, said, "Our Congressional delegation has worked closely with DeSoto leaders on this key component of the county's infrastructure," Rep. Wicker said. "This additional funding will help keep this important process moving forward."

Rep. Wicker noted that modern wastewater facilities are important elements in a community's efforts to improve the quality of life, protect the environment, and create economic development opportunities. The funds will assist the DeSoto County Regional Utility Authority with Phase II of its plan, focused on western DeSoto County.

Congress has appropriated $40.5 million for these critical infrastructure improvements since 1998.

The legislation also contains $2 million for the Parker Hannifin Corporation based in Cleveland, Ohio, to conduct research on hydraulic engine fuel efficiency. Its Olive Branch facility will do the work, designed to develop technology to make heavy vehicle use more efficient. The technology has applications for buses, trucks, and other heavy machinery/construction equipment.
