Energy, Water Appropriation Has Funds For New Albany Substation

ENERGY, WATER APPROPRIATION HAS FUNDS FOR NEW ALBANY SUBSTATION

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved an appropriations bill containing $900,000 to assist the City of New Albany with construction of an electrical substation that will serve the new Toyota facility in north Mississippi.

U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker said the project is contained in the 2008 Energy and Water Appropriations bill, which funds the nation's energy and water resources needs. The project will help put into place another key component of the infrastructure needed to enable the Toyota manufacturing plant to go online in 2010.

New Albany Light, Gas and Water will build the station to supply the Toyota assembly plant site at Blue Springs. The Tennessee Valley Authority will also assist in this effort by tapping into the McGregor's Chapel 161-kv transmission line and building a new 161-kv line to the Toyota facility.

"The project will help ensure the electrical capacity will be there to meet increased needs when the Toyota plant becomes operational," Rep. Wicker said. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.

The U. S. Senate must also consider the legislation.
