Manhattan Selected as Finalist for National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility
Congressman Jerry Moran today released this statement regarding the Department of Homeland Security's announcement of site finalists for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF).
"Today, we are one step closer to bringing this tremendous opportunity to Kansas. The selection of Manhattan as a finalist for NBAF is evident of Kansas's leadership in agriculture and bioscience research. I commend community, state and federal leaders for their efforts to showcase Manhattan and the advantages our state has to offer."
NBAF will be a home for scientists from DHS, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services to research biological and agricultural threats to humans and animals. A final site announcement is expected in 2008. Moran is a member of the Kansas NBAF Task Force, formed to bring the federal research facility to Kansas.
