REP. WALZ ANNOUNCES SEVERAL APPROPRIATIONS REQUESTS HAVE CLEARED FIRST HURDLE
Today, Rep. Tim Walz announced that several of his appropriations requests moved a step closer to receiving funding when they were approved by a key House subcommittee. Both the FY08 Transportation Appropriations bill and the FY08 Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations bill were approved by the House Appropriations Committee yesterday. Both bills included funding for several of Walz's requests.
"These eight projects cleared a major hurdle today," Walz said. "The process is far from over and none of these funding levels will be guaranteed until the bills are passed by both the House and the Senate and signed by the President. But I am pleased that the Appropriations Committee threw its support to these projects in the First District. I will continue to push these projects forward, because from Highway 14 to youth and health care programs, all of these requests represent vital needs in our communities."
Both bills must next be considered by the full House of Representatives and then negotiated with the Senate-passed version of the same legislation. After a House-Senate conference committee negotiate a final version of the legislation and it is passed by both chambers, it will go to the President for his signature before becoming law. The remaining seven appropriations bills in which Rep. Walz made requests are still pending in the House.
