Gov. Rounds Asks Travelers to Make Travel Safety a Priority This Holiday Week

Gov. Mike Rounds asks those who are traveling on Independence Day and the following weekend to please make travel safety a priority.

"We enjoy celebrating Independence Day and many of us travel to spend time with our families and friends. While traveling the South Dakota highways, please remember to drive safe and buckle up," said Gov. Rounds. "Please use your seat belt, follow the speed limits and don't drink and drive."

As a reminder to weekend travelers, the South Dakota Highway Patrol will be on the roads in full force to keep travelers safe.

According to Highway Patrol statistics, last year there were 16 alcohol-related crashes during the 102 hours surrounding the 4th of July. Those crashes killed three people and injured another twelve.
