Rep. Courtney Votes to Protect Connecticut Families, Invest in Nation's Homeland Security

Congressman Joe Courtney today voted to significantly increase funding to protect Connecticut's and our nation's communities by supporting the Fiscal Year 2008 Homeland Security spending bill. The bill was overwhelmingly passed by the House of Representatives with a final vote of 268-150.

"Congress has an obligation to do all that it can to protect the American public and our nation's infrastructure," stated Congressman Joe Courtney. "I am proud to support this Homeland Security spending bill because it moves our country closer to the full implementation of the 9/11 Commission's Recommendations, which I believe will make eastern Connecticut and our nation safer. This bill also rejects the $1 billion in proposed cuts to first responder grant programs by President, which have become an important funding source for our local fire fighters."
