Concressman Bennie G. Thompson Names Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Spouses Education Scholarship And Cherrios Brand Health Initiative

CONGRESSMAN BENNIE G. THOMPSON NAMES CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION (CBCF) SPOUSES EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP AND CHERRIOS BRAND HEALTH INITIATIVE RECIPIENTS

Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the recipients of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Scholarship Fund Program for the 2007-2008 academic year. The following students, along with a listing of their perspective schools, were awarded scholarships from the CBC Spouses Education Scholarship Fund and the CBC Cheerios Brand Health Initiative:

3.Robin Robinson: Alcorn State University

4.Brittany Prowell: Alcorn State University

5.Toneka Rogers: Jackson State University

6.Cordarrell Self: Jackson State University

7.Niesha L. Gilmore: Jackson State University

8.LaJuana Thomas: Hinds Community College

9.Brittany K. Harris: Delta State University

10.Paul Calcote: Mississippi College

11.Damien Kohn: Jackson State University

12.Max Rollins: Millsaps College

13.Leonte' Jones: Jackson State University

The Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Education Fund was established in 1988 in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships. This program provides tuition assistance to enable students to fulfill their higher education goals. In September 1998, the CBC Spouses Education Scholarship Fund was expanded to include a special health initiative sponsored by the General Mills Corporation. The CBC Spouses Cheerios Brand Health Initiative Scholarship awards grants to students pursuing a career in the medical, food services and/or any health-related field.
