Governor Designates Business Appreciation Week

- Statewide events scheduled to recognize Virginia businesses -

Governor Timothy M. Kaine announced today that he has designated May 13-19, 2007 as Business Appreciation Week in the Commonwealth. Coordinated each year by the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA), the week is dedicated to celebrating contributions of Virginia businesses. This year's theme, "Virginia - The Foundation of American Business," salutes four centuries of commerce in the Commonwealth and acknowledges Virginia businesses for establishing the American economy.

"Virginia businesses have played a significant role in American history," said Governor Kaine. "We now enjoy a thriving and diverse business climate because of many great entrepreneurial efforts. We trust that today's businesses will continue to move Virginia forward with the support of corporate citizens and state leaders."

Governor Kaine honored Virginia businesses today at the annual Business Appreciation Week Governor's Breakfast at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. This week, there are more than 50 local and regional events scheduled throughout the Commonwealth to recognize businesses owners. VDBA supports economic development in the Commonwealth by working with new and existing businesses to provide workforce incentives, loans, business information, procurement assistance, incubator counseling, and educational opportunities for the business and economic development communities.
