WALZ STATEMENT ON BUSH'S ACKNOWLEDGE- MENT THAT A LONG TERM COMMITMENT MAY BE NECESSARY IN IRAQ

Yesterday, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow told reporters that President Bush envisions a long-term commitment of US troops in Iraq, similar to the "Korean model." Rep. Tim Walz issued the following statement:

"The President's statement that a long-term presence may be necessary in Iraq is the ultimate admission that this Administration's pre-war predictions couldn't have been more wrong.

When the President invaded Iraq, Democratic leaders like Senator Carl Levin warned of the dire consequences of failing to plan for the war's aftermath, only to have the Administration question their patriotism and their judgment. Today he affirmed that they were right all along."
