BUCHANAN SUPPORTS BILL TO FUND OUR SOLDIERS FIGHTING THE WAR ON TERROR

Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-FL 13) released the following statement regarding his support for the Iraq War supplemental spending bill.

"Our troops fighting the War on Terror need this funding to succeed in their mission," said Buchanan. "The emergency troop funding bill is long overdue. "

Buchanan said he will oppose a separate measure that contains billions of dollars in unrelated, non-emergency spending.

"While I am pleased to see this spending bill stripped of ‘pork' dollars for peanut and sugar beet farmers, Capitol tour guides, avocado and orange growers and spinach producers, I remain disappointed that leaders in the House have included more than $20 billion in extraneous spending."

This spending measure also included an increase in the minimum wage, which Buchanan voted for earlier this year as stand-alone legislation.
