Foxx launches 'TEACHERS in Congress' program
Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (NC-05) this week announced the start of the application process for her first annual TEACHERS in Congress program. One Fifth District school teacher will travel to Washington, D.C. for two weeks of intensive learning and curriculum development activities this July.
"Today's students are tomorrow's leaders," Rep. Foxx said. "Equipping our educators is critical to the success of our nation's future public servants and I am excited to offer a program that gives teachers a tangible way to bring students a taste of our government."
The TEACHERS in Congress program was created to offer teachers a taste of the real workings of Congress and the Federal government while experiencing the day-to-day life of a Member of Congress. By supplying teachers with hands-on opportunities, the program will help local schools enhance their civics and history curriculum.
The program will consist of opportunities for curriculum research; briefings with House Committee staff; attending hearings, legislative meetings, floor debates and votes; meetings with Congresswoman Foxx; and tours of the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress and area museums.
