Moran Resolution Recognizing Greensburg Passes U.S. House

Congressman Jerry Moran today announced passage of a resolution he introduced with Members of the Kansas delegation expressing the support of the U.S. House of Representatives for the community of Greensburg as it continues rebuilding from the devastating tornado that struck on the evening of Friday, May 4.

"We in Kansas are accustomed to tornadoes, but I have never seen destruction such as this in one community," Moran said. "This is truly a time of devastation, but it is also a time of hope. There is a sense in America that we are all in this together. We have seen this exhibited time and time again by friends and family. We have also seen it demonstrated by people who know no one in Greensburg. While faced with such significant loss, I have seen nothing but a sense of spirit about rebuilding lives. The people of Greensburg have faith in their future and are willing to take the steps necessary to see that their community is rebuilt."

The May 4 tornado stretched more than a mile and a half wide and was classified as an EF-5, the strongest possible type and the most powerful tornado to hit the U.S. in the last eight years. Approximately 95 percent of Greensburg was destroyed, which caused more than 1,500 residents to be displaced from their homes.

Moran has spent much of the last two weeks in Greensburg meeting with local officials and residents. Kansans can find information about how to help by visiting Moran's Web site at: www.jerrymoran.house.gov/.
