Walberg Fights for Taxpayers, Urges Vote Against Largest Tax Increase in American History

WALBERG FIGHTS FOR TAXPAYERS, URGES VOTE AGAINST LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN AMERICAN HISTORY

U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) today issued the following statement concerning a new study released by the Heritage Foundation on the Democratic Budget Resolution that passed the House in March and is scheduled to be voted on in a bi-cameral conference next week.

The study revealed that if the conference report is approved, the Democratic budget would raise taxes by $3,019 per Seventh District resident, cost south-central Michigan 2,272 jobs and cost the Seventh District's economy $207,000,000.

Walberg's statement follows:

"Right now, taxpayers in south-central Michigan are making tough choices every day to ensure their family budgets are balanced. They do so by cutting spending and having fiscal discipline.

"It's time we make these same common-sense choices on a federal level. The budget proposal introduced and passed by my colleagues on the opposite side of the aisle imposes the largest tax increase in American history, nearly $400 billion dollars over the next five years.

"As a recent Heritage Foundation study reveals, their plan institutes a $3,019 tax increase for the typical Michigander and embraces a ‘spend now, reform later' mentality.

"Congress needs to pass a balanced budget bill without raising taxes. We need to make tax relief permanent for hard-working American families and implement common-sense policies for the future.

"The American people long for a Congress that puts our fiscal house in order on a federal level, but they want this done without expanding the size and scope of the federal government."
