Clyburn on Passage of Hate Crimes Prevention Act
House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today commented on passage of HR 1592 the Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
"Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminds us in his Letter from Birmingham Jail that, time is always ripe to do right.' What do we stand for when we rise to take our congressional oath in this august body, if not to protect the rights and freedoms granted under the Constitution? Hate and violence have no place in American society. Today we recognize that the time is right to join together to provide equal protection under the law against violent crime for all people, no matter their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation."
