Boozman: Intel Bill Weakens Security
Calls Democrat-Backed Intelligence Plan Flawed

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today said the business of the nation's intelligence community should be focused on terrorists who wish to do us harm, not on global warming, as he voted against a Democrat-backed plan to change the mission of our intelligence services.

The FY2008 Intelligence Authorization calls for the Director of National Intelligence to formulate a national intelligence estimate (NIE) on the geopolitical effects of global climate change while also cutting human intelligence programs - going against the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

"This bill cuts human intelligence - our spies - while we are at war with al-Qaeda and changes our intelligence mission toward tracking global warming instead of terrorists," Boozman said. "In my opinion, this weakens national security by reducing our capability to protect ourselves by gathering intelligence on an enemy who means us harm. This type of plan does not fit into our nation's best interests."

"We want our intelligence community to work efficiently with the resources we give them so that we can remain safe. We don't want our resources squandered on a ‘politically correct' issue thanks to a flawed intelligence bill," Boozman added.
