Boozman: Military Families Deserve Housing Options
Adds Support to Housing Tax Credit Bill
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today reaffirmed his commitment to military families by announcing he will co-sponsor H.R. 1481, the "Military Access to Housing Act of 2007."
The bipartisan bill offered by Rep. Jerry Moran (R-KS) would amend the Internal Revenue Code to exclude the military housing allowance for tax purposes so families may qualify for financing with the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC).
"Military families should be entitled to greater housing options," Boozman said. "The basic housing allowance given by the military is treated as income' despite the fact that it goes directly toward ensuring a room is over the head of our military families. By fixing this problem, we can improve the housing choices for them."
