Boozman: Iraq Installment Plan Won't Work
Says Troops Should Not be Pawns in Political Game

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today called on House Democrats to forego funding the Iraq war on the "installment plan," and instead provide the funds the military needs.

The plan, floated by House leadership and reported by the Associated Press, would fund troops through July, then give Congress the option of cutting off the money.

"Troops are not children, they shouldn't be treated like one and given an allowance," Boozman said. "You can't ensure our military needs are fulfilled on the installment plan. You can't make long-term plans for success 60-days at a time.

"The well-being of our men and women in harm's way should not be used as pawns in a political game which will actually result in making things more dangerous in Iraq," Boozman added. "Instead of Fall 2008, the new deadline would now be July 31. We have sharpened the spear of the terrorists in Iraq and created the situation where if they step it up, come August 1, they win."
