Schmidt Announces Good News for Cincinnati GE Plant

Today the House Armed Services Air and Land Forces Subcommittee unanimously restored a $480 million authorization for the F136 engine, an alternate engine for the Air Force and Naval Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). The engine is being designed and will be built in Southern Ohio.

"General Electric has worked tirelessly to develop the alternate engine for the Joint Strike Fighter, I am very pleased the Committee continued to authorize this program, important to both our national security and the greater Cincinnati economy," Congresswoman Schmidt said.

Schmidt continued, "For over a decade, Congress has supported a stronger JSF program by continually touting the benefits of competition for the JSF propulsion system. These include: lower acquisition costs; reduced development and operational risk; and long term savings in life cycle costs. I believe this in the best interest of the American taxpayer."

The Joint Strike Fighter Program is the Department of Defense's next generation strike fighter systems for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and our allies.

Congresswoman Schmidt Represents Ohio's Second Congressional District, representing Southern Ohio including all or parts of Hamilton, Clermont, Warren, Adams, Brown, Pike, and Scioto counties.
