Trade Cannot Trump Public Health

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) issued the following statement on the need for China to improve their poor safety regulations.

"The poor sanitary conditions and lack of regulations that comprises China 's food and drug safety system is very alarming given their increasing role as an exporter of goods to the rest of the world. It is becoming more apparent that the source of contaminated products in our country, whether it is pet food or medications, often is traced back to China . The Chinese need to be aware that trade cannot trump public health and that their regulations need to be strengthened to be considered an adequate trading partner."
