Hoeven Working To Arrange Meeting With Imation, Wahpeton City Officials

Gov. John Hoeven today said he is working to arrange a meeting as early as possible with Imation and Wahpeton city officials to outline a course of action following the announced closing of Imation's Wahpeton manufacturing facility. Company officials have notified the state that they plan to close their North Dakota facility by mid-2009 owing to a corporate research and development restructuring.

"I've spoken with Imation's Senior Vice President and General Counsel John Sullivan, as well as Wahpeton City officials, and we're working to arrange a meeting to discuss ways we can approach the situation with the best interest of the workers and community in mind," Hoeven said. "At the same time, I've asked Job Service North Dakota to work with employees and the company to transition workers into new jobs as soon as possible. I've also asked the Department of Commerce to work with city and company officials to begin efforts immediately to help find a new employer to come into the community to replace those jobs.
