Nadler Rallies 22 Reps. To Push For 9/11 Health Funding

Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) today rallied 22 Representatives, most from the New York City metro region, to ask the Chairman and Ranking Member of a key House Appropriations Subcommittee to commit more than $282 million for the World Trade Center Monitoring and Treatment Program in their 2008 appropriations bill. In their letter, the members also encourage the development of a comprehensive approach to 9/11 health that would include residents, non-first responder workers and school children. This request is a follow up to a similar request made by Rep. Nadler earlier this year.

"We have an obligation to provide for the monitoring and treatment for those brave first responders who were exposed to toxins at the World Trade Center," said Rep. Nadler. "The President's $25 million ‘placeholder' in the budget is simply not enough. In the days after 9/11, first-responders came to New York from around the country to help in any way they could. The least we must do now is help those that have since become sick and need treatment. Furthermore, we still need to fund the health needs of residents, non-first responder workers and school children."
