BUCHANAN JOINS HOUSE TO EXPRESS SYMPATHY FOR VICTIMS OF VIRGINIA TECH MASSACRE

Congressman Vern Buchanan joined his colleagues in the House today to express sympathy for those impacted by the deadly shooting this week at Virginia Tech.

"I join my House colleagues to offer my condolences to those affected by what appears to be the worst mass shooting in our country's history," said Buchanan. "My thoughts and prayers are with the 32 students and staff who were killed and wounded in the senseless massacre as well as their families, friends and colleagues."

Buchanan supports H.Res 306, which is expected to pass the House today. The measure:

• Offers heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families regarding the horrific violence and to the students, faculty, administration, and staff and their families who have been deeply affected by the tragic events that occurred there;
• Expresses hope that losses from the mass shooting will lead to a shared national commitment to take steps that will help our communities prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future; and,
• Recognizes that Virginia Tech has served as an exemplary institution of teaching, learning, and research for well over a century, and that the University's historic and proud traditions will carry on.
