Boozman Votes Against Massive Tax Hike

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today voted against a Democrat-backed budget plan which will result in nearly $400 billion in tax increases by 2012.

"The priorities of America include making it easier for Americans to plan and invest in their future. Unfortunately, today's vote goes against the priorities of working and low-income families, the elderly and married couples by passing the largest tax increase in American history," Boozman said.

H.Con.Res. 99, the Congressional Budget for the U.S. Government for Fiscal Year 2008, narrowly passed the House Thursday, 216-210. Seven House Members did not vote. Normally, 218 votes are needed for passage.

Among those who will experience a tax increase if the Democrats' plan becomes law:

• 26 million small business owners, by an average of $3,960.
• 48 million married couples, by an average of $2,899.
• 42 million families with children, by an average of $2,181.
• 12 million single women with children, by an average of $1,082.
• 17 million senior citizens, by an average of $2,270.
