Boozman Supports Protecting Trucking Jobs

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today reaffirmed his commitment to the American trucking industry and the safety of men and women on the nation's highways and interstates by signing on to co-sponsor the NAFTA Trucking Safety Act of 2007.

The legislation, written by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), would prevent Mexican-based motor carriers from operating in the United States beyond the current commercial zones on the U.S.-Mexico border unless certain conditions are met. Additionally, the legislation also prevents Mexican truck drivers from driving in the United States until American law enforcement possess the ability to verify the driver's identity as well as their driving record and criminal history.

"The security of our roads demand legislation such as this," Boozman said. "Mexican truckers should be required to follow the same rules and procedures as American truckers so that we are able to secure the nation's roadways."
