THREE IMPORTANT VETERANS' BILLS PASS HOUSE
Today with bipartisan support, the United States House of Representatives is expected to pass three important pieces of veterans' legislation, all of which were co-sponsored by Rep. Tim Walz. The legislation passed includes the "Joshua Omvig Suicide Prevention Act," the "Dr. James Allen Veteran Vision Equity Act," and the "Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2007."
Walz, a proponent of comprehensive mental health care for veterans, noted, "Although veterans make up only ten percent of the population, one in five suicides in the United States is a veteran. Since May of 2003, ninety-three veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have committed suicide. This is tragic and unacceptable, and we need to do everything in our power to ensure that veterans' mental health needs are met."
"I'm proud to be a co-sponsor of each of these bills. Together, these bills begin to address the mental, physical and financial health of our veterans - action that is long overdue," said Walz.
