Boozman Urges Health Center Expansion

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today called on House appropriators to increase funding for Community Health Centers for the fiscal year 2008.

In a bipartisan letter to the health appropriations subcommittee, Boozman encouraged a $200 million increase in funding for the centers, which serve underserved rural and urban communities.

"Community Health Centers serve nearly 16 million people each year, including millions without health insurance or a ‘health care home," Boozman said. "The 3rd District's Community Health Centers provide quality, family-centered, care for many in the rural parts of the district. It is imperative to secure every opportunity available to bring quality healthcare to the people of the 3rd District."

There are nearly 5,000 community, migrant, public housing, and homeless health center sites in the United States. Health centers operate in rural and urban communities that are designated as medically underserved because heathcare is either scarce or non-existent, providing affordable, quality care for less than $1.50 per patient, per day.
