U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today reaffirmed his commitment to alternative energy and the prospect of high-paying Arkansas jobs by co-sponsoring legislation to stimulate research and growth of the solar power and fuel cell industries.

Boozman co-sponsored H.R. 550, the Securing America's Energy Independence Act of 2007, a bipartisan bill which would extend existing tax credits for stationary and portable fuel cells and solar technology through 2016.

"Fuel cells and solar power diversify our energy supply, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil," Boozman said. "Because these technologies are still in their early stages, there are higher costs when compared to well-established sources like gas and oil. We should stimulate our efforts to fully develop solar power and fuel cells as viable alternatives, and we accomplish that by encouraging business to take the risk by extending the tax credits to them."
