STATEMENT OF U.S. SENATOR DICK DURBIN REGARDING TODAY'S BID BY INTERCONTINENTAL EXCHANGE

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today made the following statement regarding today's unsolicited $9.7 billion all-stock bid for the Chicago Board of Trade by IntercontinentalExchange:

"As with all such offers, today's proposal by IntercontinentalExchange needs to be evaluated by the proper federal regulatory and oversight authorities, but I believe that the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade have created a merger agreement that makes sense and is beneficial to all involved."

"I'm sure the Board of Trade leadership will review the new proposal and will make the decision that is in the best interest of the Chicago financial community as a whole."
