STATEMENT OF U.S. SENATOR DICK DURBIN REGARDING 2nd DOWNSTATE REGIONS AIR SERVICE SHUTDOWN

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) made the following statement in response to a public announcement made today by Regions Air that it has ceased operations for the second time this week.

"Two weeks ago, I sent letters to the U.S. Department of Transportation, American Airlines, and the affected communities voicing my lack of confidence in Regions Air. Three weeks ago, I met in Dallas with the CEO of American Eagle to discuss this situation and to urge a prompt replacement of Regions Air."

"Today's shutdown, the second in a week, confirms my fears. Regions Air cannot provide even the most basic air service, let alone the reliable service our downstate communities deserve."

"The U.S. Department of Transportation, working with the affected communities, has accelerated their efforts to find a reliable replacement carrier and will be announcing their decision shortly."
