WALBERG JOINS NORTHEAST-MIDWEST CONGRESSIONAL COALITION
U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) today announced he has joined the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition, a bi-partisan coalition working to enhance the region's economy and environment.
"I am delighted to be a part of this bi-partisan group committed to enhancing the economic and environmental health of the Northeast and Midwest," Walberg said. "My involvement in this caucus will give Michigan a louder voice in Congress."
BACKGROUND:
- The Northeast-Midwest Institute is non-profit research center dedicated to economic vitality, environmental quality, and regional equity for Northeast and Midwest states
- The coalition is co-chaired by Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Jack Reed (D-RI), and Reps. Steven LaTourette (R-OH) and Marty Meehan (D-MA)
- Formed in the mid-1970's, it fulfills its mission by conducting research and analysis, developing and advancing innovative policy, providing evaluation of key federal programs, disseminating information, and highlighting sound economic and environmental technologies and practices
- The Coalition also supports the Great Lakes Task Force which has championed many of the environmental and maritime issues important to the Great Lakes and the Manufacturing Task Force which promotes policies and programs important to the manufacturing sector
