DURBIN WELCOMES FIRST NEW C-40C TO SCOTT AFB

[SCOTT AFB, IL] - U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) helped celebrate the arrival of the first of three new C-40s to the 932nd Airlift Wing at Scott Air Force Base today.

"Today marks a new chapter at Scott AFB, as the 932nd takes on a new, valuable mission with the C-40 aircraft. The state-of-the-art plane we're welcoming today reinforces and strengthens the presence of the 932nd Airlift Wing here at Scott Air Force Base. The transition from the C-9 to the C-40 mission will help keep more than 1,000 reservists and civilians employed at 932nd Airlift Wing."

The C-40C will primarily be used to provide safe, comfortable and reliable transportation for U.S. leaders to locations around the world. The airplane is the first to offer a wide range of seating capacity options and that flexibility will allow the aircraft to serve a broad range of missions. On occasion, the aircraft may also be tapped to help with homeland security needs, flying Special Forces to the scene of a natural disaster following an emergency, Durbin said.

The arrival of the aircraft is also noteworthy because the purchase was the first in a new, streamlined acquisition process for the Air Force, Durbin said.

Scott AFB expects to welcome delivery for the second aircraft in July and the third aircraft in December.
