WALBERG FIGHTS FOR TAXPAYERS, OPPOSES "SPENDATHON"
U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) this afternoon issued the following statement after voting against the Democrats' $463.5 billion spending measure for the remainder of this fiscal year.
"I came to Congress not to maintain the status quo in Washington, D.C., but to represent the citizens of south central Michigan and work for real, meaningful reform on how Congress spends taxpayer dollars.
"The proposal this House voted on today is best described as a spendathon.'
"It contains numerous examples of egregious and wasteful spending, including funding for an indoor rainforest in Iowa, the continuation of funds for the Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska and dozens of other pork barrel spending projects.
"Congress should not be acting in a manner that suggests business as usual, but instead should be enacting meaningful reforms that grow our economy and lead to a balanced budget.
"We need to ensure our top financial priorities, such as our critical infrastructure, homeland defense and veterans, are appropriately funded in a budget devoid of wasteful government spending. I will continue to work for passage of legislation I co-sponsored giving the President line-item veto authority, an important tool in the fight against wasteful spending, as well as legislation that would give us true accountability and reform on the issue of pork barrel spending."
