Boozman Named Ranking Member
For the needs of America's veterans, the 110th Congress officially got underway with the organization of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. Ranking Member Steve Buyer (R-IN.) announced the selection of U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) as the Republican leader of a key subcommittee.
"The Republican members of this Committee all have a firm commitment and an unwavering dedication to serve our nation's 26 million veterans. From those who have served on this Committee in the past and those who have now chosen to serve, this membership is comprised of those who have answered the call to ensure that America's veterans have a strong voice in Congress," Buyer stated.
Boozman, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity in the 109th Congress, returns as its Ranking Member. With jurisdiction over veterans education, vocational rehabilitation, housing, and servicemembers civil relief, Congressman Boozman's tenure as chairman included the passage of legislation awarding set-aside contracts to service-disabled vet-owned small businesses, and mandated training for all federally-funded veterans employment specialists at state employment services.
"It is my pleasure to announce that my good friend Congressman Boozman will serve as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity," Buyer added. "The veteran's community can expect the same level of dedication and commitment from Congressman Boozman in the 110th Congress."
"I am very honored to again be selected to focus on the needs of the veterans community as they transition to civilian life," Boozman said. "Every American owes a debt of gratitude to the men and women of the Armed Forces, and securing the financial future of our veterans is a small down-payment toward all we owe to those who secure our freedom. I look forward continuing the work that is needed to take care of the nation's veterans.
"The Veterans Committee is an example of what the 110th Congress can be," Boozman added. "The proper care of veterans is not Republican or Democrat, it is American. It is my hope we can be an example of what can be accomplished in Congress when we get together to work on the people's business."
