Boozman: Panel Not Enough
U.S. John Boozman (R-AR) voted against H.R. 35, a bill which Democrats claimed would "enhance intelligence oversight authority."
The bill, which is a companion to H.R. 1 - the Democrat bill to "adopt" the 9/11 Commission recommendations, would create a Select Intelligence Oversight Panel inside the bureaucracy of the House Appropriations Committee.
"This bill does nothing to fulfill the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, which was to create a full-fledged committee to oversee the intelligence community of the United States," Boozman said. "I am also concerned about the partisan nature of this bill, as it would be Speaker Pelosi, and Speaker Pelosi alone, who will designate the members of this committee. Will we get true oversight, or will we get a rubber-stamp for the Speaker's agenda?
"Rather than deliver on their campaign promise, Democrats would rather protect the old committee structure and the old ways which the commission identified as a weakness," Boozman said.
