CARTER FIGHTS TO KEEP TAXES LOW
House Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31) today voted to protect the American people from tax hikes by the Democrats. Unfortunately, Democrats were successful in passing legislation that will make it easier to raise taxes on the American people.
"Our economy is strong today because of pro-growth Republican policies that have made it possible for more Americans to have good-paying jobs, own homes and provide for their families," said Carter. "I will continue to fight tooth and nail against any policies that will cripple the economic strength we have worked so hard to achieve."
The new House Rules package introduced today by the Democrat Majority in Congress did maintain the Republican rule that requires a 3/5 supermajority to raise taxes and a provision to prevent retroactive taxes. However, the Democrat rule allows the Rules Committee to waive these protections with a secret vote behind closed doors. The Republican Majority offered a motion to close this dangerous loophole. Unfortunately, the Democrats voted in block to defeat the procedure.
