Boozman Tapped for Three Subcommittees

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) announced Friday his assignment to three subcommittees of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The subcommittees are:

• The Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health
• The Subcommittee on International Terrorism and Nonproliferation
• The Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere

Each subcommittee will present Boozman the opportunity to work on international issues grabbing current headlines.

"I am thankful for these important assignments on the Committee on Foreign Affairs," Boozman said. "There is important work to be done on the world stage, and I look forward to representing the interests of the 3rd District, and the State of Arkansas, while collaborating with colleague to create opportunities to find common-sense solutions to the challenges which lay ahead."

On the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health

"We must continue to take a stand against the ongoing genocide in Darfur, and we must do everything we can to bring peace to the region. This is an issue which cuts across partisan lines and demands a real solution to end the daily human suffering which has lead to the death of hundreds of thousands of people. I am eager be a part of the process to overcome this challenge; in addition to continuing the work to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria on the continent."

On the Subcommittee on International Terrorism and Nonproliferation:

"The Global War on Terror continues, and I am proud to have the opportunity to help craft policies which will assist the United States in being successful. The threat of terrorism is a worldwide one which demands our attention, as does the threat of nuclear proliferation. Congress must do more to prevent the rampant spread of nuclear technology to nations which represent a threat to world peace or who have ties, direct or indirect, to terrorists."

On the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere:

"Government relations with our neighbors in the Western Hemisphere are important issues facing Americans today. These relations directly affect the tide of illegal immigration into the United States, our dependency on foreign oil, the opportunity for American businesses to trade, and the spread of socialism. I look forward to working with the subcommittee to give tools to the administration to maintain relationships with our neighbors which benefit all."
