Boozman: Secrecy is a Step-Back

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today expressed his opposition to Democrat secrecy in the Rules process, voting against Title V or H.Res. 6, the House Rules Package for the 110th Congress.

Title V exempts the Committee on Rules from the requirement to fully disclose votes taken in the committee.

"The very nature of our government is openness," Boozman said. "The concept of Americans knowing how their elected representatives voted on a particular measure is the foundation on which our government is built.

"Hiding votes behind a shroud of secrecy is the exact opposite of who we are as a country," Boozman continued. "Secrecy is not in what the voters wanted when they sent us to Washington; secrecy is a step-back to the days of the last Democratic majority, where accountability was an afterthought; and secrecy has no place in the House of Representatives.

"As the 110th Congress unfolds, I promise to do all I can to bring these secret votes into the light, and give the people and opportunity to decide whether their representative is working in their best interest.
