Statement of the Hon. Rosa L. DeLauro

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today issued the following statement after learning that an independent arbiter found that Yale-New Haven Hospital has repeatedly violated labor law and an agreement brokered to cover organizing at the hospital.

"The ruling of the arbiter that the management of Yale-New Haven Hospital engaged in serious violations of federal labor law undermines the spirit and letter of the agreement reached by all parties earlier this year.

"There appears to be general agreement among all stakeholders that the actions taken by the hospital's leadership to hold closed meetings breaks faith with the workers and the community.

"The hospital abdicated its responsibility - specifically, in their attempt to unlawfully dissuade workers from their basic right to organize. This proves that now more than ever we need to pass into law initiatives such as the Employee Free Choice Act, which would establish a system of "card check neutrality" and give workers a fair chance to decide to organize for themselves free from intimidation and coercion."

DeLauro is an original cosponsor of The Employee Free Choice (H.R. 1696).
