GRAVES' REACTION TO U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE FARM BILL PROPOSAL

U.S. Congressman Sam Graves today released the following statement concerning United States Department of Agriculture Farm Bill proposal:

"Few pieces of legislation have as much impact on the Sixth District as the Farm Bill. The Farm Bill touches commodities, conservation, energy, trade, rural development, nutrition, research, and many other important programs.

As a sixth-generation family farmer and the only member of the Missouri delegation serving on an Agriculture Committee in Congress, I will be a tireless advocate for policies that best advance the interests of our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. My colleagues and I appreciate Secretary Johanns' proposal, and will review it thoroughly as part of the many hours of vigorous debate which we will engage in as we craft the next Farm Bill. The Bush Administration clearly recognizes what Midwesterners have recognized for a long time: agriculture is the key to energy independence for our nation."
